Our “Get to Know Cape Horn” program is in many ways, the best choice to experience the area in the richest possible way. The program includes a full-day sailing trip to Wulaia, as well as an over flight of Cape Horn. The program is completed by a choice of day-treks and half-day horse rides, all this crowned by the Lodge’s Chef best menu choices. Choice of Activities:

Trekking:

A choice of three of the best day hikes possible on the northern coast of Navarino Island.

1.Bandera: A short but steep hike through southern beech forests, to arrive at the flag on top of the hill, from where one can get some of the best views of the Beagle Channel

Length: 4 hours approx. (1/2 Day)

Physical demand: moderate-high

2.Los Suecos: An extension of the “Bandera” hike. “Los Suecos” takes one further up, into sub-alpine and alpine environments from where, weather permitting, one can get one of the best all around panoramic views of Isla Navarino. From the Beagle Channel, to the whole Dientes Range and Windhond Bay, there are literally no limits (again, weather permitting) for splendid breathtaking sights.

Length: 6-8 hours approx. (FDay)

Physical demand: moderate-high

3. Ukika: A hike up one of Isla Navarino´s most stunning valleys. Escalate terraces and beaver dams while enjoying some of the island’s wildest trails.

Length: 6-8 hours approx (FDay)

Physical demand: moderate-high

Horse rides:

The best Full Day horse ride the Beagle Channel has to offer.

Our horse rides aim to provide a mix of the best views the island has to offer, along with the experience of riding with local experts in the art of trail riding. All horse rides start with an introductory lecture for safety, followed by sorting of gear and horses. All rides include the assistance of a “Baqueano” (mountain horse man in Patagonia) as well as of a guide. All rides are with Chilean-style saddles and tack.

Los Bronces: A good ride which mixes both the best of mountain and coast. Alter a climb up native forests and bush, the trail turns to the West along the coast. A delicious, homemade picnic lunch to be had under the canopies of southern beech trees, for then visiting the Los Bronces cascade, a secret spot for locals. This is our main horse ride with the best of flora, fauna and history, together with the impressive sights of the Beagle Channel as background.

Length: 6+ hours (FDay)

Physical demand: medium-high

Special Interest Activities:

1. Visit to Omora Ethno-botanical Park:

Founded in 2000, the park is a perfect simple representation of the types of forest to be found at the Cape Horn region. Also, one can pay closer attention, and discover the little universe within each moss patch through the rightfully called “hand lens tourism”.

2. Visit to the Kipakar (House of the Women):

Yagan Hands. A first hand experience to hand-crafted goods made with materials such as southern beech bark, whale bones, and reed grass.

3. Visit to Museo Martín Gusinde:

The world’s southernmost museum; the Martín Gusinde Anthropological Museum was built in 1974 and founded in 1975. It owes its name to the Austrian priest Martin Gusinde S.V.D. (1886-1969), who lived among the Selknam and the Yagan between 1918 and 1924. The museum was recently expanded and opened by Chile’s first female president, Michelle Bachelet.
