14-day tour through Colombia. Visit some of the best known and some of the unknown parts of the country. Intense Colombia takes the tourist from the capital, Bogota with its world-famous “Museo del Oro”, to the virtually untouched region of the Pacific Coast, where marvelous beaches and deep tropical forests are waiting to be discovered. We also go to the coffee growing region, before continuing to the village of San Agustin in the south-west of the country. Here, enigmatic stone figures standing sentinel in the middle of a spectacular landscape. Flying over deep valleys and high Andean mountain peaks, we arrive at the colorful and vibrant Caribbean coast, where we will visit the legendary Cartagena, one of the most beautiful and fascinating cities in South America. We guarantee that Intense Colombia will take you on a voyage of discovery that for variety and diversity would be hard to match anywhere else in the world.
1st DAY: ARRIVAL IN BOGOTÁ
Arrival in Bogota, welcome by our bilingual travel guide and transfer to a beautiful hotel.
2nd DAY: BOGOTÁ
Half-day tour. We begin with a walk round Bogota’s main square, the Plaza de Bolívar and the government buildings around it, before entering the nearby “Candelaria” old town, the colonial center of the city. We follow this with visits to San Francisco church and to the world-famous Museo del Oro (close on Mondays), which contains more than 30.000 pre-Columbian gold artifacts. We end with a trip by cable car to the summit of Monserrate hill, Bogota’s best-known landmark, with a wonderful view of the whole city and the savannah beyond.
3rd/4th/5th DAY: BOGOTÁ – NUQUÍ (PACIFIC COAST)
After breakfast, transfer to the airport and flight from Bogota with one stop in Medellin, destination Nuquí, a village on the pacific coast. After a short walk around, we board a small motor-boat to make the one hour trip south along the coast to Coqui cove. This is the spectacular seaside setting of the El Cantil cabañas.
Three- nights in the huts, including full board. Daily walks to the sea and into the deep tropical forest surrounding El Cantil.
6th DAY: NUQUÍ (PACIFIC COAST) – PEREIRA (COFFEE REGION)
After breakfast, return by motor-boat to Nuquí and transfer to the airport. Flight via Medellin to Pereira, capital of Risaralda. Two nights including breakfast in a very typical coffee farm. In the afternoon visit to a coffee growing farm which includes a technical and practical introduction about the whole coffee cultivation and production.
7th DAY: PEREIRA COFFEE REGION
After breakfast, trip to the Cocora Valley. With breathtaking landscapes, which will be explored by a horse, riding or walking trip this is one of the most beautiful places in Colombia. Here we will find the impressive “Palma de Cera”, the Colombian national tree and one of the tallest varieties of palm in the world. On the way back to Armenia visit to Salento, picturesque village of the coffee culture.
8th DAY: COFFEE REGION – SAN AGUSTÍN
After breakfast, transfer to the airport and flight to Neiva with one stop in Bogota. After reaching Neiva, an overland trip of 4–5 hours through the mountainous landscape of the river Magdalena to San Agustín. Reaching the village, transfer to a wonderful hotel. Three nights stay including American breakfast.
9th DAY: SAN AGUSTÍN
In the morning, an extensive visit to the “San Agustín Archaeological Park”, we will see the Mesitas A-B-C and D, the “Fuente Ceremonial de Lavapatas” and the Archaeological Museum. In the afternoon, horseback ride to “El Tablón” and “La Chaquira” archaeological spots or alternatively a visit to the nearby straits of the Magdalena.
10th DAY: SAN AGUSTÍN
After breakfast, trip to the nearby village of San José de Isnos, to see the treasures of its archaeological park, the “Alto de los Ídolos”, “Alto de las Piedras”, and the “Salto del Mortiño” waterfalls. In the afternoon, return to San Agustín and free time at leisure.
11th DAY: SAN AGUSTÍN – CARTAGENA
In the morning, overland trip back to Neiva. Flight to Cartagena, via Bogota. Welcome by the local travel guide. Transfer to hotel. The remainder of the day will be at the tourist’s disposal.
12th DAY: CARTAGENA
After breakfast, a half day tour around Cartagena, one of the most impressive urban centers in Latin America. It is an ancient city constructed in the Spanish colonial style and surrounded by high defensive walls. Nevertheless, do not be surprised if your own defenses fall and you find yourself falling in love with Cartagena’s heady mix of history and Caribbean charm. The tour takes us around all the historic buildings and plazas of the old city, including the “La Popa” convent and “San Felipe” castle. The afternoon will be at the tourist´s disposal to either explore the streets of the old city at your leisure or take a bath in the Caribbean.
13th DAY: CARTAGENA
Day-trip to the Islas del Rosario, including lunch. Tour to the aquarium at San Martín’s Island, Here we will have the opportunity to see sharks and performing dolphins. Continuation to the privately owned Pirate’s Island, with time to relax sunbath or take a dip in the Caribbean. Return to Cartagena during the afternoon.
14th DAY: CARTAGENA – DEPARTURE
During the course of the morning, transfer to the airport and return flight, to Bogota.
