Petropolis is a city located in the mountains at a distance of 60 km from Rio de Janeiro. Kind Pedro II bought a property here in 1830 and constructed a summer palace to be able to bring his sick daughter that could not stand the heat of Rio de Janeiro. European settlers left plenty examples of Germanic architecture.

The Royal Palace contains many original furniture and objects of the royal family exposed in its museum. There are rich royal jewels, such as a crown of gold decorated with pearls and diamonds that was used by the kings. With our guide we visit the Gothic Cathedral where Princess Isabel was buried along with the tombstones of D. Pedro II and his wife and then the Royal Palace museum.
