This backpackers tour takes you into the heart
of the Pantanal and you feel a part of the nature as you live
together with the Pantaneiro guides, sleep in tents and hammocks
and do some exciting tours to get closer to the surrounding wildlife
and nature.
The Nhecolandia region, the driest, highest and
biggest part of the Pantanal, is also one of the least accessed
by people, thus housing a large amount of wildlife, ready for
you to be seen.
Day 1
The first night in the camp is free to find your tent or hammock
and relax whilst you get acquitened with the camp. Dinner awaits
you upon arrival and then you can join the crowd at the campfire.
Day 2
You are woken between 5:00- 5:30 in the morning for breakfast.
Followed by a 3 Ð 3 hours of hiking to enjoy the wildlife surrounding
the region called SALT LAKES (the best environment to see mammals).
You come back for a well deserved lunch. After lunch there is
some time for a siesta and around 3 p.m. in the afternoon the
horses will be prepared to take you horseback riding. (2,5 hrs)
Your guide will accompany you and your group along the Pantanal
plains and bushes and possibly trough some ponds ( depending on
wet or dry season). On your way you will pass some grazing cattle
and try to spot wildlife. In the evening you will have dinner
and can enjoy yourself with the others in the camp.
Day 3
After early wake up, your Pantanal guide will take you to a river
in the trucks to go piranha fishing in a lake next to the second
base camp. As you stand in the water up to your waist you are
fishing real piranhas under supervision of your guide. JacarŽs
(small alligators) also live in the same river. If you wish the
guide will take you swimming amongst them!
The accommodation is basic, you live in
a camp where you either sleep in hammocks protected by mosquito
nets, or in tents on the campsite. Meals with fresh fruits and
vegetables await you 3 times per day, and the campsite has good
showers and bathrooms. There is a campfire and a lasso square,
where you can practice your lasso throwing skills together with
the locals. Cool drinks are available in the bar. The camp does
not have electricity, which actually gives it an extra charm as
at night the candles are lighted up and the campfire offers a
perfect gathering place.
Transport: It takes about 8 hours to get
to the camp from Campo Grande, along different sand and dirt roads
and over bridges with ponds with caimans (small alligators) and
along bushes and plains housing wildlife. The group, consisting
of no more than eight people, will depart in a bus from the busterminal
of Campo Grande at 11:30am to the entrance of the Pantanal. Here
we change vehicles, leaving the bus and joining a 4WD truck to
the Base Camp with the opportunity for a photographic safari.
You arrive at the base camp around 8:00pm where dinner is provided.
