1980 when wome people from the neighbourhood of Periperi (suburd
of Salvador) decided to form a bloco to participate in Bahia's
carnival. The name of this Bloco (Ara Ketu menas "People
of Ketu") ad well as the theme of the clothes and music
shows the groups will to show and spread the Afro-Bahina culture,
at that time in a strong renaissance progress in Brazil. Of
all the Afro Blocos Ara Ketu was always he least discriminating
one admitting people of all sexes, colors and religions, showing
as one of the most open Blocos. This is why Ara Ketu gained
the admirement of the audience and became of the champion of
Salvadors carnival for 3 sequent years. This block nowada playes
