Day 01 Airport – Managua
Greeting at your arrival at Managua International Airport. Transfer to the hotel in the city.
Day 02 Managua – La Sombra Ecolodge
Breakfast at the hotel. Transfer to Matagalpa, to the municipality El Tuma - La Dalia. We will stay at La Sombra Ecolodge, a property of 214 Mz. of which 174 Mz. are grown with coffee; and the remaining 40 Mz. are protected areas of tropical forest where streams are born, including the Caratera River, which forms two imposing waterfalls: El Edén and El Gavilán. Upon arrival, you can visit the Butterfly Garden to know in depth the mysterious stages of development of the butterflies. It has a reproduction laboratory where lectures are given on the process of metamorphosis of the species. In the reserve, 74 species of daytime butterflies have been identified, of which 15 species reproduce in summer and 26 in winter. A few meters away is El Ranario, a small kiosk isolated with mesh, where frogs are raised. Twenty percent of the reproduced frogs are destined for the ranch and the remaining 80% are released into forest areas near streams of water.
Day 03 & 04 La Sombra Ecolodge
Breakfast at the hotel. Days at leisure to enjoy the area. Some of the activities options are: Explore the crop areas to learn more about the production of strawberries, raspberries, blackberries and carrots. Walk along the trails of the property, which add up to 4200 meters. Learn more about the coffee production process during the productive season between November and February. They will explain the processes of cutting, measuring, pulping and washing, as well as the various types of coffee. (2 hours). Visit "El Edén" Waterfall and enjoy a refreshing swim in its waters. (2 hours). Do a birdwatching tour. (1 hour). On one of these days we will visit Macizo de Peñas Blancas, part of Bosawas Biosphere Reserve, the biggest reserve in Central America. We will take a walk along the path that leads to the Rainbow Waterfall. During the walk we will learn about the types of medicinal plants found in the forest and pass by streams, giant rocks and beautiful landscapes.
Day 05 La Sombra Ecolodge – Masaya – Granada
Breakfast at the hotel. . Transfer to Granada, the oldest colonial city in the western hemisphere of the Americas that still remains in its original place of construction. The city was founded in 1524 on the shores of Lake Cocibolca. On our way, we will visit Masaya Volcano National Park, where a paved road takes us to the edge of the active Santiago crater.
Day 06 Granada – Isletas – Granada
We will pick you up at 06 am to take you to the port where you will take a boat tour on the beautiful Isletas, an archipelago of more than 300 islands located in Lake Cocibolca. The eco-friendly electric motor allows you to take very nice close-up pictures, as the motor is totally silent. Zero noise and zero air or water pollution. During the tour you will see ospreys, cormorants, herons, tiger herons, swallows, parakeets, hummingbirds, kingfishers, frigatebirds, magpies and oropendolas.
Day 07 Granada – Mombacho – Granada
Our tour guide will pick you up at 05.30 am to take you to Mombacho Volcano Natural Reserve and do a 02-hour birdwatching tour. Mombacho forests and coffee important habitat for a variety of resident and migratory birds like Parakeets, toucans, tanagers and Hawks. Then, you will take a delicious breakfast with tropical fruits before going back to Granada where you will have time to enjoy the city.
Day 08 Granada – Apoyo – Granada
Breakfast at the hotel. Transfer to Apoyo lagoon, an ancient crater lake located in the dry tropical forest of Nicaragua, which is home to Howler monkeys and a variety of tropical birds. Here you can swim or kayak on the pristine waters of the lagoon. Whatever you choose, there is no doubt you will enjoy the tranquility of a very special place. Transfer back to Granada at the end of the day.
Day 09 Granada – San Carlos – El Castillo
Land transfer from Granada to San Carlos where you will take the itinerary boat to El Castillo. At night, you have the option to take a two-hour tour to appreciate the nocturnal fauna like caimans, amphibious and birds. (Not included on the rate. Subject to availability)
Day 10 El Castillo / Indio Maiz Natural Reserve
Breakfast at the hotel. Transfer to the Indio-Maiz Reserve, where you can observe a variety of flora and fauna and enjoy a swim in the Bartola River. Return to El Castillo. In the afternoon we will visit the Fortress of La Inmaculada Concepcion, built in 1675 to defend the town from the attacks of pirates who more than once entered from the Caribbean to the city of Granada. The Fortress has an Interpretation Center containing historical data and objects that were used during the defensive system of the XVIII century.
Day 11 El Castillo – San Carlos – Managua
Transfer to San Carlos by boat. Transfer back to your hotel in Managua.
Day 12 Granada – Airport
Transfer to Managua International Airport according to your flight’s departure time. We recommend being at the airport 02 hours earlier.
