Beside of many notable national banks, some very
considerable banks from the USA, England, Germany and Japan as
well as some other countries have successfully opened branches
in Paraguay. Therefore it is not out of place to call the country
nowadays "Switzerland of South America."
About 150,000 inhabitants are from European origin.
Many of them have successfully started their own business in industry,
trade or farming.
The country's official languages are Spanish and
Guarani, but the Indian dialect Guarani is more popularly spoken.
The Indian language is nice to hear but unfortunately hard to
learn. Most Paraguayans are bilingual and speak Spanish fluently.
Average wages and salaries are very low. Paraguay
continues being a third world country with a necessity to improve
many social and economical aspects of the country. The national
