Day 1- Arrival Guyana:
Arrival in Guyana, South America's only English speaking country. Guyana is a nature lover's gem, waiting to be discovered. It is known as the land of many waters and the giants of the world, among them; the mighty Essequibo River, Giant Arapaima fish, mighty Harpy eagle, the Anaconda, Giant Otters and Jaguars. You are privately transferred to your hotel. Overnight.
Day 2 – Georgetown City Tour:
Today we enjoy a city tour of Georgetown by car/bus, including St Georges Cathedral-the tallest freestanding wooden building in the world- picturesque City hall, the Victorian Law courts and many heritage sites, the national museum, botanical gardens and zoo. Return to hotel.
Day 3- Kaieteur Falls Excursion:
Morning departure from your hotel to airport for our chartered flight to Kaieteur Falls. Kaieteur National Park is situated on the Guiana Shield, a plateau that is one of the world's oldest and remotest geological formations. The park is home to the tiny golden frog which spends it entire life in the large tank bromeliads; white-chinned and white-collared swifts; red and green macaws, Morpho hecuba, South America's largest butterfly, the Ocelot, the Cock-of-the Rock, and many more. This natural wonder has a sheer drop of 741 feet and is 5 times the height of Niagara Falls. After an extremely fascinating tour of Kaieteur falls, we return to Georgetown and city tour of Georgetown, including St Georges Cathedral-the tallest freestanding wooden building in the world- picturesque City hall, the Victorian Law courts and many heritage sites, the national museum, botanical gardens and zoo. Return to hotel.
Day 4: Iwokrama Field Station:
Departure to Ogle airstrip for check in. Departure for Annai, Rupununi. Transfer to the Iwokrama Rainforest Reserve. Transfer to the Canopy walkway where you will overnight. Visit the Canopy Walkway and spend some time enjoying this spectacular and exhilarating experience of the tropical rainforest canopy. Observe the wildlife and birdlife from 35m up in the trees. The walkway is the only of its kind in the Guiana Shield.
Day 5: Canopy Walkway, Jaguars and more!
Before dawn you will walk along the trails of the elusive Jagaur. This trail is a known habitat of the Jaguar, so if you’re lucky you might spot something! After breakfast, you will leave for the Field Station . Unpack and continue on your tour traveling by boat for half of an hour to the foot of Turtle Mountain then commence a leisurely stroll up the mountain to its summit a 953ft(approx. 106m). This mildly challenging stroll takes about 1-1 1/2hr. to walk up the mountain, but the effort is more than worth it for the breathtaking views over the forest canopy when you get up there. Return to the Field Station. You are likely to see howler monkeys, tapir, giant otters, and many more species of birds and wildlife. The rest of the afternoon will be spent setting up camp and exploring the area near to the Turtle Mountain Satellite Camp. Overnight at Turtle Mountain.
Day 6- Karanambu Ranch & Giant Otters
Karanambu is one of Guyana 's leading eco tourism destinations, popular because of the well-publicized interest of its owner, Diane McTurk, in conserving the endangered giant river otter. Located in the Rupununi, Karanambu offers rustic but comfortable accommodations.
Day 7: Karanambu Ranch
You will sample activities such as: bird watching, canoeing, caiman spotting and wildlife viewing. The possibilities are endless and the best part is that most options are included in this tour. Even a swim with the 'Diane's otters' can give a sense of pure satisfaction. Birdlife is rich and varied; both on the savannah and more along the rivers and ponds. On our guided tours we will most likely see the big birds- Jabiru stork, the Great Egret, the Agami Heron and the Great Blue Heron- as well as different species of Kingfishers. As we move into the ponds we see the Green Ibis, Snowy Egrets, Boatbill heron, the Purple Gallinule and the Wattled Jacana both stepping on the large Victoria Amazonian lilies.
Day 8: Fly to Georgetown
Fly from Karanambu Ranch to Georgetown and transfer to your hotel.
Day 9: Suriname/ French Guiana:
Fly to Suriname and then transfer to Albina with air-conditioned car and bilingual guide. Cross with Ferry and transfer to Kourou overland and to your hotel for overnight.
Day 10: Devils Islands Tour:
After breakfast, transfer to Ile Royale for your Devil's Island tour. Spot presentation by English speaking Guide. See Devil's Island from the Auberge and learn about the Dreyfus affair and about the French Guiana colonial era and its cruel past. Visit the ruins of the penal settlement. If time permits, visit Joseph Island . Late afternoon return to hotel.
Day 11: Ariane Space Centre
Transfer to Ariane space centre. The tour starts at 8:00 AM -11:00 am complete tour with bus shuttle to the main installations. Get to know more about the space program. Return to hotel and noon departure for Paramaribo, Suriname. Transfer to hotel for overnight.
Day 12- Departure
Transfer to airport for return flight.
