Between turquoise water and a mangrove-fringed lagoon, Placencia looks like paradise.
Perched at the southern tip of a sandy peninsula, this laid-back village is worth every bump on the incoming dirt road. Once a fisherman's hide-out known to few outsiders, Placencia is now a haven for diving, snorkeling and sailing. It's claim to fame, however, is the best set of beaches in Belize.
